On Saturday, December 19th, we welcomed the world’s premier manouche jazz guitarist, Stephane Wrembel, to the Academy of Music in Northampton, MA. Joined by long-time collaborators Thor Jensen (guitar), Ari Folman-Cohen (bass), Nick Anderson (drums), and with special guests Nick Driscoll (saxophone and clarinet) and Daisy Castro (violin), Wrembel performed songs from his 2020 release, The Django Experiment V.

Hailed by the New York Times as, “perhaps the most creative improviser in Gypsy jazz today,” the Django Experiment is simultaneously traditional and non-traditional, experimenting with the use of colors and sounds within familiar forms.
