Two-time JUNO (Canadian Grammy) winner Kiran Ahluwalia is one of global music’s most compelling cross-pollinators, bringing together the disparate traditions of Indian music, West African Blues and Jazz, a sound quite unlike anything you’ve heard. With roots in Sufi, Qawalli, Ghazal, and Punjabi Folk she crafts her own contemporary songs that are equal parts reflective and groovy. Kiran’s lyrics explore themes as broad as cultural intolerance in our largely immigrant society and as personal as the struggle to fully embrace female desire by throwing away shame. Along with guitar, on stage she is also accompanied by tabla, organ/accordion and drum set.
