Isaiah J. Thompson & IT’s Freedom

Clearly a master in the making, Isaiah J. Thompson will front IT’s Freedom, an exciting trio from New York City. It isn’t every day you can say you were there when it all started.

Experiencing Isaiah J. Thompson at the piano is like being privy to an inventor demonstrating his mastery over a new, wonderful machine. But if you close your eyes, you can also hear the channeling of so many great masters before him, from Duke Ellington to Thelonius Monk. It’s a rarity for an artist to so masterfully meld the moods and emotions of the greatest players, while sounding so uniquely himself. Joining Thompson will be Zoe Obadia and Felix Moseholm. Zoe Obadia is a saxophonist, composer, and teacher. Playing the saxophone at age nine, she became immersed in a community of great jazz musicians and educators based in New Jersey, her home state. Felix Moseholm is a New York-based jazz musician from Copenhagen, Denmark. Moseholm has been acknowledged for his skill as a bass player and particularly his quality of sound receiving acclaimed awards such as The Horace Parlan Talent Award. As you settle into your seat this night, you may not be quite prepared for the stunningly beautiful sound, syncopation, and unbridaled soulfulness coming from the stage.

The Black History Month series is sponsored by Ruthie Oland Real Estate, Davis Financial, and Living in the Light of Rare Diseases, and is co-presented with the David Ruggles Center.
