Flamenco dancer María Moreno (Cádiz, 1986) has shared her artistic essence on the stages of such prestigious theaters as London’s Sadler’s Wells, the Paris Villette, the Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater and the Russkaya Pesnya in Russia, and the Baelo Claudia Roman Theater. She’s also graced the Suma Flamenca Festival in Madrid and the Itálica Dance Festival in Seville.
María, always a whirlwind of creation, won the Best Newcomer Award at the 2017 Festival de Jerez with the production Alas del recuerdo. Next, De la Concepción in 2018 won her the Giraldillo Award for Best Newcomer at the Seville Flamenco Biennial. In 2020, she premiered More(No)More with which she won her second Giraldillo, this time for Magical Moment at the XXI Biennial for the beginning of her soleá. Also at this edition of the biennial, she worked with Antonio Canales and Rafael Riqueni on the event’s inaugural performance. Yo bailo, a book with photographer Susana Girón in which María writes the texts, was born in 2020. It is an extension of her eponymously named show created a year earlier.
María has been nominated on three occasions for the Max Prize for Performing Arts, twice for De la Concepción (Best Female Performer and Best Stage Direction) and once for More(no)More (Best Costume Design).
