Dancer Ana Morales (Barcelona, 1982) is one of the most lauded representatives of the contemporary generation of artists who are revolutionizing flamenco. “Intensity, elegance, sensuality,” is how she is described by Didier Deschamps, director of the Thêátre Chaillot in París.

Trained in contemporary dance and flamenco, her creations are characterized by the search for a choreographic discourse that reflects the current moment. She has created seven productions that have received awards at a slew of festivals and that have been lauded by critics and the public alike. Sin permiso. Canciones para el silencio, directed by Guillermo Weickert and co-produced by the Seville Flamenco Biennial, the Festival de Jerez, and the Flamenco Festival and Tanzhaus Dusseldorf, won the prestigious Dance Giraldillo and three Lorca Prizes in addition to being included in the El Cultural list of Best Flamenco Shows of the Year. The production premiered at the 2018 Festival de Jerez and has been performed at the Théâtre Bernadette Laffont in Nîmes, the Baelo Claudia Roman Theater (Cádiz), the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, Thonon les Bains (Switzerland), and in Posthof-Zeitkultur am Hafen (Austria).

Morales’ other productions include: Una mirada lenta (2017), premiered at the Teatro Central de Sevilla; Los pasos perdidos (2016), premiered at the first edition of Septiembre es Flamenco (Seville); Bagatelas (2015), produced by the Biennale de Flamenco in the Netherlands and premiered at the Teatro Muziekgebouw aan’t ij (Amsterdam); Reciclarte (2012), premiered at the Bienal de Sevilla; and De Sandalia a Tacón (2010), premiered at the Teatro de Bogotá International Festival. On the Tightrope (2020) premiered at the XXI Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla.

Morales has been a member of the Javier Latorre Company and the Andrés Marín Company, and she performed as a soloist in the production Flamenco Hoy and in the film Iberia, both directed by Carlos Saura. She was a soloist with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía in the shows La memoria del cante 1922 and Imágenes (winner of the Best Show Giraldillo at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, 2014).
